A BIG sporting day for the village of Welland tomorrow sees the official opening of their new pavilion.

Football Foundation president Lord Pendry will launch the new building in Marlbank Road along with changing rooms and renovated pitch at 1.30pm.

The pavilion provides football facilities for all age groups at Welland Juniors and will allow the club to grow.

Thy plan to extend activities at Spitalfield to include more training opportunities, plus Saturday and Sunday league games for under 15s to 17s boys’ and girls’ teams.

Welland also plan to form a senior team in the future.

Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council were awarded £99,393 after applying to the Football Foundation which is funded by the Premier League, Football Association and the Government via Sport England.

Juniors had previously benefited through the junior kit scheme and also received a ‘Grow the Game’ grant. An additional grant of £100,000 has come from the FA.

Peter Manion, chairman of Juniors, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming the Football Foundation’s President, the Rt Hon Lord Pendry of Stalybridge, to Welland so we can thank the foundation personally on behalf of the whole club.

“Having a home for the club and such an excellent community facility would not have been possible without the foundation’s commitment and support.”

Lord Pendry said: “We are delighted Juniors and the local community will have access to these fantastic new facilities and commend the club and the Worcestershire FA for their hard work in making this happen.”
