AXED England star Kevin Pietersen will aim to take his frustrations out on Worcestershire Royals tomorrow (3.40 pm) in Clydesdale Bank 40 Group ‘A’ after joining Surrey Lions.

The batsman made the shock revelation that he had been left out of the national side for the one-day and Twenty20 games against Pakistan on his Twitter account this morning before the squads had been officially announced.

Pietersen also revealed that he had signed for Surrey — the Royals hosts tomorrow — from Hampshire.

A posting on the 30-year-old’s official Twitter page said: “Yep...Done for rest of summer!! Man of the World Cup T20 and dropped from the T20 side too. Its a **** up!!, Surrey have signed me for l ....” before the post was deleted minutes later.

However, the news was later confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board that Pietersen had joined the Oval side on loan until the end of the season, while Surrey’s ex-Worcestershire star Steve Davies had been selected for the series.

The South African-born player later said via the ECB: “While I’m naturally disappointed to have been omitted from the England squad I fully understand the reasons why and will be doing everything I can to get back into the England team.

“I have no issue with the selectors omitting me from the limited overs squads and my sole focus now is working on my game ahead of an exciting winter.”

Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell insists the Royals won’t change their plans for the contest as they search for their fourth consecutive victory in the competition.

“We are all in the game to play against the best players in the world and KP is one of them,” Mitchell said.

“We will look to bowl nice tight lines and hopefully we will try can get him out cheaply just like any of their batsmen.”

But the Royals will make the journey to the Oval without Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Worcestershire are hopeful the 23-year-old will be fit for Saturday’s trip to Lancashire Lightning.

Shakib has been replaced in the squad by England Under 19 batsman Jack Manuel, who made his senior debut in the County’s Friends Provident t20 tournament.

Having beaten Glamorgan Dragons, Unicorns and group leaders Somerset Sabres, director of cricket Steve Rhodes is targeting another big scalp.

“I was really delighted with the win over Somerset,” Rhodes said.
