WHEN Worcester carp ace Chris Carter drew peg 35 in the neck of the top pool at Brockamin, everyone taking part in the bank holiday open knew they were fishing for second place.
Offering corn and pellet, Carter netted around 40 smaller carp for an excellent winning weight of 123lbs 8oz.
Runner-up Anthony Primaverina also broke the magic ton when he unusually tackled the margins of his peg 29 with plenty of maggots to take 104-2 to the scales.
Third place went to venue regular Tony Witcher, whose paste bait was offered close in on peg 31 for 96-2 of carp.

Matt Hodges used his paste bait into the margins to weigh in an all-carp net of 48-11 and win the Leigh Sinton open on the Woodland Pool.
Improving on his previous week’s runner-up place was veteran Alan Higgs, who used similar tactics to the winner for 32-2.
Third place went to Colin Hope whose meat and corn-fed carp net of 31-2 also came from the margins.

Strong winds and heavy rain made things uncomfortable for Whitehall AC members on the club pool at Cotheridge.
Seasoned campaigner Dave Yapp beat the conditions with ledgered meat on his peg 22 and, despite missing the net with a 5lbs carp, went on to record a winning 30-8.
Tony O’Neil claimed second prize with a 21-0 carp net taken on corn from peg four.
In third place was silver fish expert Anthony Staite, who took 18-12 of roach and rudd along with a solitary carp, all on maggot from peg nine to beat Mark Bayliss with 17-10 from peg 17.
The next Whitehall AC event is on Oak Pool at Ockeridge.
A new venue record was set at Cob House Fisheries when regular Scott Jones weighed in a staggering 392-2 of carp from peg nine on Wyatt’s Pool.
Second was Carl Jones with 327-11 off peg seven and third Clive Wright with 218-4 from peg five.
The 24-peg bank holiday open produced big catches with Bob Baker netting 313-10 from Laugherne Island Pool.
Runner-up with the best weight from Wyatt’s was Jason Elwell’s 266-5 ahead of John Watson with 264-5 and James Wood with 206-11.
