WORLD CHAMPION: Worcester teenager Katrina Wilson. WORLD CHAMPION: Worcester teenager Katrina Wilson.

KATRINA Wilson has added the title of kata world under 18s champion to her English and European number one rankings.

The Worcester teenager went one step further in her wadokai karate career with a fantastic display at the World Wadokai Cup in Nagoya City, Japan.

Wilson, 17, defeated competitors from Iran, Russia, France, USA, India, Germany, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Switzerland.

Representing Wadokai England, she won the nation’s only gold medal at the world championships, which are held every five years.

Wilson helped the squad to finish fourth overall in the medal table, the best result ever achieved by the England squad.

The student at Hon Yoso Kai Karate School, Worcester, has been training hard since visiting Japan in 2005.

Coach David Wilson said: “Her dedication and determination to take on the best in the world and beat them has also inspired others in England as well as making her personal dream come true.”

She has also been helped by Wadokai England kata coach Peter May.
