KIDDERMINSTER Victoria head into the final weekend of the Birmingham League season with the Premier Division title in their grasp following their 82-run success at Smethwick.

The Chester Road side have not won the Birmingham League crown since 1975 and on Saturday they host table-toppers Shrewsbury.

However, Kidderminster could still be denied by Knowle and Dorridge, who are level on points with Victoria, as they travel to Wellington.

The title clash with Shrewsbury was set-up largely due to Mark Mansell’s 6-18 at Smethwick as the hosts were bowled out for 105 chasing 188.

Having been asked to bat, Kidderminster’s opening pair Craig Wood (54) and Matt Pardoe (42) put on 104 for the first wicket off 32 overs.

But Smethwick hit back as former Chester Road bowler Vishal Bhatia claimed 6-42.

The hosts were quickly in trouble in their reply as Jason Voros took two wickets as Smethwick were reduced to 50-4 in the opening 24 overs.

But then Mansell stole the show as he ripped through the hosts batsmen.

Keeping his lines tight, his 14.1 overs saw take 6-18, while Voros chipped in with 3-35 off 17 with the other wicket being a run out.

Now all eyes turn to Saturday and the title showdown.
