SOME of our younger players are in for a brilliant experience today as they step out at Lord’s for the first time.

For those who have never been to the home of cricket, all I can say is it is a fantastic place to play.

It is hard to describe but as soon as you walk into the dressing room there you get a special feeling.

It has been two years since we last played at Lord’s and it was one of the first matches I looked for when the fixtures came out at the back end of last year.

We go to Lord’s still with a chance of promotion from Division Two in the LV= County Championship.

It is amazing that we are up there but it was one of the goals we set ourselves this season.

We have two games remaining this season, starting today against Middlesex, and we are going all out for the wins which, hopefully, will get us promotion.

Alexei Kervezee, Moeen Ali, who I expect will get his 1,000 this week, and I have all gone out there and got runs.

With the ball, Alan Richardson, Matt Mason and Richard Jones at the start of the season have all pitched in with the wickets.

We have had pretty simple plans in our Championship cricket — build partnerships with the bat and target the top of the off-stump with the ball.

In four-day cricket, you can have a bad hour or session and still recover but that cannot happen in the one-day game.

We have played good stuff in the Clydesdale Bank 40 during the second half of the season, beating the likes of Somerset and Surrey.

We all know we had a disappointing start to the 40-over competition but we can all be positive with the way we finished.

The defeat on Saturday at Lancashire Lightning was pretty disappointing.

We batted well in Liverpool, Alexei’s century was superb, and we put on a score that really should have won us the game.

But we let ourselves down, first with the ball and then in the field. That came as quite a shock to us as we have been performing well in both disciplines lately.

There was also good news that Mase has signed for another season at Worcester.

He is a fantastic player to have in the side, he provides great control with the ball and will get you wickets.

But it is so much more than that with Mase.

He is a great guy to have in the dressing room.

He is well-liked and the youngsters all look up to him.
