CITY’S Ryan Clarke needs little incentive today to inflict defeat on Boston United in the FA Cup.

The defender, who rejoined Worcester last week, spent the 2008/09 season on the Pilgrims’ books but was released ahead of a move to Eastwood Town.

Now he is out for revenge when he faces his former employers in the second qualifying round today (3pm).

The match is one of the toughest draws City could have received at this stage of the competition with Boston sitting second in the Blue Square Bet North table.

But Clarke said: “I’m very pumped up for that and hopefully we can get something.

“It will be tough going there, they have really started well so it will be a big test for us.”

The 26-year-old has had two spells at Boston having started his career at the Lincoln-shire club, going back for a second time after Worcester were moved to Conference South.

But he has returned to Worcester via Eastwood and later Ilkeston Town after the Derbyshire club were wound-up and removed from the Blue Square Bet North records.

“I played every game for Boston the year I was there but the managers who are there now, Rob Scott and Paul Hurst, came in and released pretty much everyone,” Clarke said.

“It was a bit stop-start last year because I had work commitments pre-season and this season hasn’t been ideal either.”

He is now hoping to get a run of games for Carl Heeley’s team and recapture the form that won him City player-of-the-year honours at the end of the 2007/08 campaign.

The former Alfreton Town player was deployed at centre-half in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Workington but is equally at home on the right.

Clarke added: “I have been playing right-back all season but when I was here I played pretty much all season at centre-half.

“I am comfortable wherever really.”
