MANAGER Carl Heeley could hardly contain his delight at seeing Worcester City dump Boston United out of the FA Cup.

Goals from Mark Danks, Tom Thorley and Danny Glover’s stunning late winner ensured City advanced to the third qualifying round at the expense of the Pilgrims with a 3-2 success.

“If ever you look for a game to epitomise what the FA Cup is all about, that was it. It was an absolute classic,” Heeley beamed.

“In the first-half we were unbelievable and I thought we murdered them — they couldn’t live with us.

“We started really well in the second-half, as well as we had started the first, but Tim Sandercombe has made an error of judgment, he thought the ball was running out, and it was a poor goal to concede.

“It changed the whole momentum of the game and it gave them a lift. When they got back to 2-2, we were hanging on.

“At 2-2 we would have taken the draw but when Tom Thorley burst through and was pulled down I had a funny feeling we could get a goal out of that and it proved to be.

“When we saw Danny’s shot hit the post it seemed like the longest half-a-second there’s ever been.

“When the net bulged the other side you could see our celebrations.

“There’s nothing better than being involved in football when that happens.” Heeley added: “You have got to give credit to Boston, they are second in the league and won at Alfreton last week. They were not going to take it on the chin and just roll over for us.

“We knew they were going to have a good go and they certainly did.

“But the result was the most important thing and that was brilliant.”

Glover said of his match-winning strike: “As soon as I saw it I knew it was inside the post so I was off celebrating. Some of the lads thought I’d shanked it.”

Striker Marc McGregor, a makeshift centre-half in recent matches, missed the game through illness.
