WORCESTER City boss Carl Heeley reckons his team deserve some luck in today’s FA Cup draw.

The St George’s Lane club are in the hat for the third qualifying round after a stunning 3-2 victory at Boston United on Saturday.

Striker Danny Glover fired an 89th-minute winner after first-half goals from Mark Danks and Tom Thorley had been wiped out by the Pilgrims.

Heeley said City proved their doubters wrong and have earned an easier ride this time around, although he knows they should not fear anybody.

“We have earned a bit of luck, that was as tough a game as we could have had and we’ve come through it,” he said.

“Nobody gave us a chance, they called us underdogs and no-hopers.

“But those boys have earned everything they have got, they thoroughly deserve a kinder draw now.

“We’d like a home tie but we’ll see what it throws up, we can’t do anything about that.

“Certainly, after coming to Boston to win we shouldn’t be fazed by anything.

“I haven’t seen a side comprehensively beat us this season.

“In every game there has been encouragement for me.

“When we play, we are as good as anybody in this league.

“The problem we have is we find it difficult at the moment to sustain our play for long periods to kill the game off.”

City banked £4,500 in prize money for their success at the Jakemans Stadium, as well as a share of the gate receipts from a crowd of 1,352.

Heeley added: “Before the game, I wasn’t interested in the money.

“I was interested in those boys getting a little bit of recognition for their efforts.

“But, now it’s over, £4,500 is very welcome and I am sure our board will be very pleased with that.

“It gives us an opportunity for another share of the gate and to compete for more prize money but our focus in the next round, whoever we may get, will be on winning a game of football.”

Heeley rated Saturday’s performance as among the best this season, particularly the first-half, but he singled out Tom Thorley, scorer of the second goal.

The City manager said: “Tom hasn’t had the best of times lately but the boy’s a very good footballer.

“I have stuck with him and left him in there. I thought he was outstanding.”

The fans also earned praise after 38 made the journey to Lincolnshire.

Heeley added: “There’s a lot of faces that we see week in, week out and they want us to win as much as anybody, so we celebrated with them.

“That’s as good a celebration as I’ve had for a long, long time.”
