WORCESTER’S Chris Summers again proved his all-rounder status by taking top spot in the Cavalier Cup on the canal between Blackpole and the Blockhouse.

Summers had already won the Martin Little memorial on the River Severn and the Edgar and Jefferies match at Brockamin.

Making good use of his fancied peg 210 above George Street bridge, he offered worm and caster bait to the far bank reed bed to net quality roach and perch for a winning 7lbs 13oz 8dr total.

On nearby peg 206, Spa MG ace Rob Francis used identical bait in the deeper centre channel to take a roach and perch net of 7-8-4.

Third was Lion club stalwart Dave Lowe whose 6-4-14 included two good chub and came to caster on peg 202 in the factories.

Section winners, A: Martin Hartle; B: Brian Jarvis; C: Mal Galliers.

Top team were Lion ‘B’ consisting of Dennis Evans, Galliers, Jarvis and captain John Maloney, who scored 12 points to beat both joint-second Alan’s Tackle and Spa Black on 15. Barbourne AC’s decision to switch their contest from a flooded River Wye to the club pool at Cotheridge proved fruitful for Terry Box.

He took the first prize with 62-2 of carp to 8lbs from peg 14 on corn and maggot presented into the corner margins.

Runner-up Ashley Bosworth continued his good form in club events when his maggot-caught bag of 55-4 included fish to double figures from peg 19 opposite the winner.

Richard Hancocks claimed third place with 32-8 from peg nine to beat Dean Bosworth’s 29-1 carp net.

Whitehall club members endured heavy rain and high winds in the latest outing on their pool.

But regular winner Dave Warren still managed 55-0 of carp and silvers to the scales on pellet from peg 22.

Nigel Crane was on peg five where he used maggot bait to secure second place with a weight of 24-0.

Graham Mitchenhall came third, weighing 21-14 from peg 20, while fourth-placed silver fish expert Anthony Staite took carp to the scales going 19-0.

The next Whitehall event is on Sunday on the match pool at Hawford Bridge Fishery.

The first round of the Hereford Winter League got underway on a rising River Wye but few of the venue’s famous roach and dace shoals appeared, leaving barbel to dominate the event.

Dave Roberts drew fancied peg 100 above Vicky bridge and used a feeder set-up to take fish to 6lbs for a total of 55-10.

Andrew Murphy (Wizards) was second with 47-5, while third went to Martin Challenger with 34-8.

The best team were the Matchfishing outfit, which included Worcester anglers Stuart Harford and Colin Harvey, with 49 points to beat locals Woody’s on 48.
