WORCESTER Wanderers suffered a 24-6 Midlands One (West) defeat at Stratford, despite giving a good account of themselves.

The scoreline didn’t reflect a game in which Wanderers shared territory and possession, while creating several try-scoring opportunities.

The visitors failed to convert their chances into points through a mixture of poor decision-making, the final pass going to ground and excellent Stratford defence.

Wanderers played against the wind in the first-half and two penalties from goal-kicker Carl Buffery, making his debut for the first XV, allowed the away side to go into half-time all square at 6-6.

The first-half performance boded well, but a mounting penalty count, coupled with sin-binnings for Gareth Owens and Chris Griffiths, handed the initative to Stratford.

The hosts grew in confidence and began to finish off their opportunties to gain a commanding 24-6 lead.

Wanderers rallied and surging line-breaks from Jim Price, Ally Mclaughlin and Chris Collins just failed to produce the consolation try the Sixways side’s play deserved.
