NEW Worcester Table Tennis League Division Two leaders Himbleton ‘A’ picked up a double win to exert their authority at the top.

Dave Rothero gave the villagers a good start against Nemesis by beating their number one Richard Cullis in the decider.

Rothero won his two other singles but was beaten in the doubles with John Rowe by Ray Davies and Don James.

Davies was the only singles winner for Nemesis in their 7-3 defeat, seeing off Rowe and Malcolm Crane.

Himbleton were again 7-3 winners against The Spinstars to take them back to the top of the table.

Rowe won his three singles, while Crane and Ray Rennison added two apiece.

For Spinstars, Chris Bacon won two singles and the doubles with Paul Smyth.

Basement team Manor Park Dynamos held their own with visiting Nemesis until the latter stages.

The clash was level before Dynamos lost the last two games to go down 6-4.

Their number one Matt Hodges won two singles with Stan Mason and Charlie Burford adding one apiece.

Richard Cullis starred for Nemesis, winning three singles and sharing in a doubles win with Davies, who also contributed two individual wins.

In Division Three, Broadheath’s Ian Collins was again the strongest player in a 5-5 draw with U3A as his three wins made the difference.

Broadheath then ran up against a strong WGCC side, going down 8-2.

Two wins for Brian Webb and Paddy Mullen were backed up by the inevitable triple for Graham Meredith.

WGCC completed a good week by triumphing 7-3 over a strong YMCA Enigma side, whose wins came from John Cawthra (2) and Alan Preece.

Enigma’s fixture with leaders YMCA Elizabethans was closer than the 7-3 defeat demonstrated.

The final game saw an epic battle between Elizabethans’ Dean Lewis and new player Lucas Gatkiewicz.

After saving a match point in the fourth set, Lewis finally overcame his opponent to seal a further point.

Elizabethans had an easier fixture against U3A and won 10–0 although Alan Holmes was unlucky to come away without a victory.

Holmes took Brian Ovington and Reg Stobbs to five sets before losing the deciders.

Paul Pattisson played well and was unfortunate to lose all three matches.

T4 beat Love City Groove 8-2 with Justin Miles securing three wins.

Andy Welfoot’s victory over Andy Williams was the highlight for Love City.

Elizabethans lead the table with 31 points, followed by WGCC on 24 and T4 on 23.
