HUGO Davies scored twice as Worcester Hockey Club's Badgers Potters were held to a 3-3 draw by Lansdowne in an entertaining friendly.

In the first meeting between the teams, they both started with plenty of energy and enthusiasm.

Lansdowne took an early lead from open play but the hosts settled and Oliver Ranscombe buried a strike from a well-worked short corner.

Boosted by fine passing, Worcester led 2-1 at the break with Davies on target.

In the second period, Lansdowne equalised with a great shot into the top corner.

Good work from defenders Paddy Milton and Jacob Ford-Thomson and keeper Jack Walton kept them in the game.

Callum Stanley and Oli Langston were solid in midfield and gave Davies an opening for his second goal.

But Lansdowne continued their pressure in order to grab a deserved final leveller.

Meanwhile, Worcester Badgers Pippins introduced a number of newcomers in a 2-0 defeat to Gloucester.

Their more experienced opponents dominated throughout but Worcester’s young defence performed well.

Gloucester took the lead midway through the first-half but were denied more goals by keeper Richard Bray.

Pippins improved their passing after the interval with Ben Cooke and Archie Sale creating chances but fell two behind to a short corner.

Nicholas Pearce showed good control in defence, while Jonno Richardson, George Elliot, Oscar Dickens and Oliver Cornelius were all promising.

Worcester men's sixths lost 4-1 to Olton and West Warwick fourths in Central League South West Division One.

Worcester started in disjointed fashion and lacked cutting edge.

Olton, organised and disciplined in contrast, were soon rewarded with their opener following poor defending.

By half-time, they doubled the lead but Worcester gave them a run for their money after the break.

They created good chances but conceded a third from a swift counter-attack.

Worcester replied through Dean Sanders, who then saw an effort go over, before another attempt from a short corner was disallowed.

The pressure rocked Olton but they put the game beyond doubt with a fourth goal five minutes from time.

Worcester’s under 16s girls exited the national cup at the third-round stage with a hard-fought 1-0 loss at Yate.

Following two postponements due to the weather, the rusty visitors let in the only goal within a minute.

But Worcester improved and enjoyed the majority of possession without scoring.

Holly Smith was the most promising attacking player.

Yate defended well in the second-half and keeper Liz Furber prevented more goals at the other end.

Across the county, Stourport women’s firsts returned from their Christmas break with a 2-2 friendly draw against Bournville.

Erin Preece scored from a penalty flick and a Pippa Lewis short corner was deflected in. Stourport’s player-of-the-match was Sophie Wood.

The seconds drew 1-1 with Bromsgrove as Caroline Sidell netted for the Wyre Forest side.
