WORCESTER collected four points from a busy weekend in ENER-G Midlands Men’s Hockey League Division One.

After being disappointed to draw 4-4 at home to Wolverhampton, they recorded a fine 4-3 win at fellow promotion hopefuls Warwick University the next day.

Worcester conceded an early goal at Warwick but hit back quickly through top-scorer Chris Perry.

Both teams played good hockey and the visitors’ keeper Tom Dalton pulled off a string of fine saves throughout.

Jon Sprague’s superb drag-flick effort from a short corner put Worcester ahead for the first time.

Perry scored again after good work from Sprague, who added a fourth in the second period following a great break and cross by centre-back Marvin Bam.

A young Warwick side displayed great determination, however, and scored from a short corner before adding a third goal late on when Worcester were down to 10 men.

In the 4-4 draw with Wolverhampton, the visitors scrambled an equaliser in the dying seconds.

Wolverhampton led inside five minutes but Perry levelled after rounding the keeper and scoring from a tight angle following Josh White’s long pass.

Man-of-the-match Perry netted a second goal from a similar angle after neat build-up play.

A defensive error just before half-time allowed Wolverhampton to level but Worcester regained the lead in the second period through a solo goal from Chris Kendall.

Worcester were again hit by an equaliser and despite Sprague lifting home Steve Howard’s pass, defensive blunders cost them the win.

Meanwhile, the seconds recorded a 2-1 win at rock-bottom Wolverhampton in the West Midlands Premier Division with Ross Hodson and Jake Glass on target.

The title-chasing thirds secured a 3-2 success over Stratford in the West Midlands Premier Division.

An inter-club tussle saw Worcester fifths shock the high-flying fourths with a 4-1 win in the Central League West Midlands Premier Division.

Worcester sixths shared the South West Division One points with a 0-0 draw at Stratford fourths.

In a close game, the visitors had most of the possession but were denied by excellent defending and goalkeeping.

Stratford’s chances were limited, even after Worcester saw Josh Kusch sent off in the second period for dissent.

The previous week, the city side won 3-1 at Stourport sixths with Matt Hooper, Dean Sanders and Joe Hughes on target.

Struggling Worcester sevenths went down 3-1 at home to Droitwich fourths in Division Two.
