MANAGER Carl Heeley praised the efforts of hat-trick hero Danny Glover after he inspired Worcester City to a 4-2 victory over Hyde.

Glover netted twice in four minutes during the first-half as City established a 3-0 lead at St George’s Lane - Rob Elvins netting the other - before completing his treble 17 minutes from time.

It took the former Port Vale striker’s tally to 10 in Blue Square Bet North and 16 in total for the season.

Although Hyde hit back twice before the break, Heeley was impressed with what he saw as City recorded their fourth consecutive win, especially from Glover.

The City boss said: “Mark Clyde said to me in the warm-up that Danny looked on fire and that’s a good sign, he looked really up for it. He scored three fantastic goals and he was our best player on the evening.

“It’s great for Danny because he’s a smashing kid, he works so hard for the team and he’s got his just rewards. He’s starting to score goals regularly which we are chuffed to bits with.”

Heeley was delighted with his side’s efforts in opening up a commanding lead but felt they let complacency get the better of them.

He said: “I thought we had a blistering start, as well as we’ve started all season, and scored three great goals.

“Then I felt we lost a little bit of discipline, we thought we could win it by five or six when really it was time to do the basic things well.

“I think we weren’t alert when the ball was dead and subsequently they caused us some problems.

“I was quite impressed with Hyde offensively, I thought they had some really lively players, some good pace and were technically very good going forward.

“At half-time we said the game is never easy and the moment you think you’ve done enough it will come back to haunt you. We needed to get control of the game and we needed a good start to the second-half.

“When the fourth goal went in it was a case of would we score any more, I thought that killed them off.

“But thereafter we created more chances and we could have had another two or three goals.”

He added: “We all want to see nice silky football and see 10 or 12 passess strung together but the pitch was showing signs of wear and tear.

“As much as we want to see the fluent passing game, sometimes you have got to grind out a win and we’ve done it again.”
