DANNY Glover believes there is plenty of room for improvement at Worcester City despite their good run of form.

City’s lethal weapon fired a hat-trick in last night's 4-2 victory over Hyde as Carl Heeley’s team made it three consecutive Blue Square Bet North wins at St George’s Lane and stretched their unbeaten run to five games.

The 21-year-old’s treble was the first by a Worcester player since Craig Wilding struck three times in 12 minutes against Scarborough on November 18, 2006.

Glover was delighted with his haul but insists Worcester, who were three up inside a quarter of an hour, can’t afford to let teams off the hook.

Having established a commanding position with some excellent football, Hyde had cut the deficit to just one before City reasserted themselves in the second-half.

“We’ve known all along that we can do stuff like that, we just absolutely played them off the park,” Glover said.

“But what’s killing us, and why we’re not closer to the top five in the league, is because we sit off teams.

“It’s not one or two, it’s every single one of us and we let teams get back into it and we think it’s too easy.

“Carl spoke to us at half-time and we got back on it in the second-half and I thought we were the only ones going to win it.

“We knew with how well we started if we had carried on we could have won by six or seven but there are good players around and they will punish you if you give them the chance and that’s what we did.

“But I thought we dominated it in the second-half.

“I thought we upped the tempo a bit, probably not as much as the first 15 minutes, but we got the win and that’s what we want.”

As for the hat-trick, Glover thought he had missed his opportunity after having a second-half effort saved by keeper Kyle Clancy.

But he completed the feat 17 minutes from time to cap a man-of-the-match performance, in which he also provided cover in defence.

The former Port Vale striker, who has now scored 16 goals in all competitions for City, said: “I thought we started really well, I got a quick chance and I just made sure I kept it on target and it went from there.

“On the second one, Rob (Elvins) headed it back across and I just gambled.

“I was a bit gutted because I had a chance before my last goal, when I tried to chip the keeper and he saved it, and I was wondering if that was my chance.

“When the opportunity finally came I just thought I was going to smash it and hope for the best and it went in.”
