STOURPORT crashed to a 4-1 defeat in a crucial England Hockey League Men’s Conference West fixture at fellow strugglers Fareham.

Phil Lashford was on target with Stourport heading back to the bottom of the table as a result.

Meanwhile, the women continued their unbeaten run over the last month in Midlands Division One with a 3-2 win over Olton and West Warwick seconds.

Stourport extended their lead at the top to seven points after going ahead when player-of-the-match Pippa Lewis converted a short corner.

Olton fought back to equalise just before half-time with a penalty flick.

Stourport retook the lead in the second period when great passing play ended in a goal for Jade Marshall-Walker.

A powerful strike by Sarah Cavendish at a short corner made it three but Olton were rewarded for their efforts with a late reply.

Olton never threw in the towel and managed to score a second goal before the final whistle.

The seconds lost 2-0 at high-flying Bridgnorth in the Midlands Conference West.

Stourport could not convert their chances throughout but the hosts netted twice from open play in the second period.

Fran Moss, Holly Lashford and Kayleigh Hateley shone for the Wyre Forest side.

The thirds saw off bottom-of-the-table Droitwich 3-1 in Worcestershire League Division One.

Stourport took the lead through Louise Bagnall from open play and a well-worked short corner converted by Kerry Walker.

Droitwich pulled a goal back just before the break but Melissa Kennedy secured the points from Bethan Merriman’s pass, while Nancy Parsons was the hosts’ player-of-the-match.

The fourths went down 4-1 at fellow mid-table outfit Harborne fifths in Division Two.

Despite a strike from the top of the ‘D’ by Rosie Connolly, a strong Harborne side scored twice in the first-half.

Stourport conceded two more despite the efforts of their player-of-the-match Lily Harrison-Perkins.

A depleted fifths team lost 3-1 at Bournville thirds in Division Three with Pauline Knott on target.

Stourport’s player-of-the-match was sweeper Sara Jennings.
