STOURPORT women will play Midlands Premier hockey next season after winning the Division One title.

They secured the crown with two matches to go after a 2-0 win at struggling Edgbaston.

Helped by player-of-the-match Jade Marshall-Walker, Stourport turned pressure into two goals for Sophie Harris and defended well to keep a clean sheet.

The seconds came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Birmingham University fourths in Conference West.

The visitors took the lead on 15 minutes in an even contest.

Stourport had to wait until 20 minutes into the second-half to level when Louise Marshall set up Kate Bailey.

The students were denied a winner by keeper Sally Smith, while midfielders Shelley Tromans and Kayleigh Hateley shone.

Despite going ahead twice, Stourport thirds lost 6-3 at high-flying Badsey in Worcestershire League Division One.

They scored from a Louise Bagnall penalty flick only for the hosts to equalise.

Player-of-the-match Kerry Walker regained the lead but Badsey levelled again and stormed into a 6-2 lead before a consolation from Teresa Moss.

The fourths drew 2-2 with Old Halesonians in a mid-table Division Two clash.

The home side took the initiative early on with a goal from Amelia Baker.

But Old Hales kept Stourport’s defence busy, particularly the impressive Chris Corcoran and Julia Hopkins.

The visitors levelled in the second-half and produced a late fightback after Heather Griffiths struck for Stourport.

Ten-player Stourport fifths fell 4-0 at home to Old Silhillians seconds in Division Three. Their player-of-the-match was Alissa Elford.

Meanwhile, the England League Men’s Conference West relegation alarm bells continue to ring for bottom side Stourport.

They lost 4-2 at home to Guildford with Aden Symonds and Imran Yousaf on target.
