WORCESTER St John’s Cycling Club kicked off their season with the first time trial of the summer series at Callow End.

Thirty-nine riders competed on a fine evening and Adam Hart was the fastest over 10 miles from the Old Hills in 23 minutes four seconds.

Hart was nearly a minute clear of closest rival Steve Price, who has yet to find his best form.

Rob Nicholls clocked the same time as Price — 23.46 — in just his second year of racing.

Mat Sheppard managed 23.53, despite mechanical problems, and Nathan Preece was fifth in 24.14.

Mike Potter’s son Glen did his first time trial without his father and did well.

St John’s members competed in Velo Sevale’s 5.5-mile time trial at Hanley Swan.

Hart won the event in 11.48, beating Wyre Forest’s Phil Blacker by six seconds.

Dave Preece did 13.01 which was just 15 seconds off his personal best.

Ed Dursley beat Preece by a single second and Nicholls clocked a personal best in 12.19.

Gerry Nicholls and Maureen Burrows did respectable times for a first event.

Saints members figured in the Speedwell 28-mile time trial at Inkberrow with two laps of an undulating circuit.

Hart finished fourth in one hour 6.52 with only James Wall, Scot Povey and Dave Barnes ahead of him.

Dursley cycled 1.12.0 and Preece 1.13.55.
