I WAS thrilled with the victory over Derbyshire in the Pro40 game at New Road on Sunday.

Everybody saw that Derby-shire had collected only one point, were bottom of the table, and had a lot of injury problems and might have thought what an easy game it would be for us.

But the message before the game was to avoid complacency.

It would have been easy for the guys to think that it would be an easy win but what we were after from them was a polished, professional performance.

We fielded out of our skins and that aspect of the game showed the way we were determined not to let our guard down.

It gave me a great deal of pride that the players did everything that was asked of them by skipper Vikram Solanki and myself.

Breaking the match down a little bit, credit should go to Stephen Moore and Steven Davies who held the innings together after we lost two wickets in the space of one over.

After that, Gareth Batty and Roger Sillence put the icing on the cake in the later stages of the match.

I thought it was a good all-round bowling performance and it looks like Kabir Ali, who took 3-8 in 4.5 overs, is returning to some form.

Typically a bastman, after a break, sometimes lacks a bit of timing whereas a bowler sometimes lacks a bit of rhythm.

Kabir had a good long bowl in the Championship game against Essex and the results of that came against Derby-shire on Sunday.

He maintained his speed and it was particularly pleasing that he kept Travis Birt quiet. He is an excellent player and Kabir was responsible for keeping his score down.

It's our fifth win out of six in the Pro40 League and I think the reason we have been successful in that form of the game is that we have worked hard on our team ethics.

I think that, in one-day cricket, when situations get tough and the game gets tight the team ethics are so important.

That's when we start to bind close together and close ranks. Obviously, it augers well for the future.

If you look at our last two C&G games and our form in the Pro40 League, we are starting to be a reasonably consistent one-day side.

The players had a well-deserved day off yesterday and it's back to the Cham-pionship tomorrow.

Leicestershire are a tough side and we have to make sure that we are totally committed and disciplined in starting a new game.

In our last meeting with them, we played a very powerful game and we weren't helped by the weather.

But that's not something for us to look back on and worry about.

We will be looking to produce a solid and professional performance and to maintain the discipline we have shown so far in four-day Champion-ship cricket.
