WORCESTERSHIRE have aw-arded captain Vikram Solanki a benefit year in 2007.

Solanki, who has played 51 one-day internationals for England, made his one-day debut for the New Road club in 1993 and his first-class debut in 1995.

He has scored more than 10,000 runs in first-class cricket and recently passed 1,000 runs for the current season. He took over the captaincy of the club in 2005.

Chief executive Mark New-ton said: "No-one at the club deserves a benefit year more than Vikram. He is Worcester-shire through and through.

"He is proving to be a very good captain and is enjoying a terrific season.

"The board were delighted to confirm this decision following requests from several members to award him a benefit year."
