BARBOURNE AC matchman Nigel Hobday recorded his second victory in a month at a close-fought club contest on the bottom pool at Sion Farm Fisheries.

Starting on the pellet at around five metres, he hammered out around 25lbs of silver fish before changing his attack to an inside line in the final two hours for carp to 18lbs.

Hobday finished with a final weight of 64lbs 11oz to take the contest.

Runner-up Lee Griffiths took one small carp in an otherwise all-silver fish net of 62-6 to pellet bait offered shallow on peg six.

Griffiths’ father Bob bagged a similar catch to his son for a third-placed 46-4, while fourth was Terry Box with 38-4 from the margins.

This weekend, the club are fishing on the top pool at Brockamin.

Ex-River Wye dace king Acko Staite showed he has not lost any of his float-fishing skills when the veteran won the Arbo club contest on the River Avon at Fladbury.

Offering maggot bait down the middle of the river on a waggler set-up, Staite took a 6-4-8 mixed bag which included a small jack pike.

Also netting a tiny pike among his silver fish pole-caught net was Tim Yapp whose 5-4-8 catch came from a peg just above the bridge.

Consistent Stuart Gormley was third with 2-11, while in fourth was Colin Sherwood’s feeder weight of 2-5.

Club star Richard Oliver won the Halfway AC annual contest on Whitehall pool with a fine catch of 76-10 which included more than 20lbs of silvers fish, all caught on maggot bait from peg 10.

Second was Keith Deaner with six carp from peg three going 31-10.

Match secretary Steve Williams included two carp in an otherwise silver fish catch of 21-14 for third and fourth was Colin Bradley with 21-4 from peg four.

The previous Church Farm contest put Damien Miller on pole position with 21-0 followed by Oliver weighing 19-0 and Deaner with 18-2.

Chris Senter came out on top again at Brockamin Fishery to win the recent Alan’s Tackle open with 139-6 to paste from top pool peg one.

Bob Patrick was runner-up, weighing in a meat-caught 79-10 from peg five.

Craig Hobbs took third with 78-10, while fourth was carp expert Rob Wilson’s 58-7.

Gary Brixton junior continued his domination of Portobello contests by winning on the Willow Pool at Broadheath Fishery with 55-1 of carp and silvers to pellet and paste.

Stuart Tibbetts was second with 31-6 ahead of Gary Brixton senior with 25-10 and Ron Eagle’s 25-6.

Despite heavy boat traffic on the canal at Tibberton, Kevin Francis took 10-1 to win the latest Rifleman’s AC event.

Mick Price was second with 6-4 and Pete Chance third with 5-13.

The Woodland Pool at Leigh Sinton Fisheries played host to the Whitehall club where, despite catches being low, Len Merrill continued his good run with a mixed bag on maggot weighing 16-4. Tony O’Neil took the runner-up prize thanks to a small carp net of 14-7, third was Matt Barnes with 12-7 and fourth Dan Sydall with 10-4.
