WORCESTER City expect to make a decision on Marc McGregor’s future in the next 10 days.

The 33-year-old striker was not offered a new deal at St George’s Lane but returned for pre-season in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of the Blue Square Bet North campaign.

He scored five goals in the 7-4 warm-up victory at Bridgnorth Town on Monday and will now hold talks with manager Carl Heeley.

The City boss, whose side visit Mickleover Sports tonight (7.45pm) and Minehead on Saturday for friendlies, said: “We know he has got unbelievable quality and he’s technically a very good footballer.

“By his own admission he wanted to see how he felt in himself but I was pleased with him. He was very impressive.

“We have got two games this weekend and in the next week or 10 days we will sit down and have a chat. We have known each other for a long time and will be honest with each other.”

City currently have 17 players signed up for the new season and are giving an extended trial to former Birmingham right-back Jared Wilson.

However, they will not be pursuing their interest in ex-Rhyl full-back Martyn Naylor and have also decided against deals for midfielders Courtney Charles and Chris Parker and centre-half Shane Prince.

The trio started Monday’s match against Bridgnorth and were involved in the 7-0 win at Pershore Town last week.

Midfielder Tom Thorley is available for the trip to Northern Premier Division Mickleover, as well as the games at Minehead and Hednesford next Tuesday, before flying out with Great Britain on Wednesday for the World University Games in China.

The 21-year-old is expected to miss the first four games of the season.
