KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Steve Burr is pleased with the progress his squad is making ahead of the new season.

Harriers have three more friendlies before the Blue Square Bet Premier campaign kicks off in two weeks, starting against a Wolves XI at Aggborough tonight (7.45pm).

It gives Burr’s side the chance to make it three warm-up victories in a row following Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury, which featured goals from Lee Vaughan and Jamille Matt, and last Saturday’s 3-1 success at Northwich Victoria.

The last two fixtures have seen marked improvements in performance and given all 22 players in the squad chance to impress.

Although Wolves’ team will predominantly feature youngsters — as West Brom’s did when the Baggies won 3-2 at Aggborough last week — Burr knows the fixture will be beneficial as his players continue their development.

He said: “I think we’ve got a very talented group of players technically. It’s just mixing it up with that other side of it off the ball and working hard.

“I thought they did that very well against Shrewsbury.

“That’s the thing we’re working towards on the training ground and during the week leading up to games because we’ll need that in abundance again this season.

“There’s still a lot of hard work ahead of us. We’ve got a lot of new faces in the squad but we’re starting to gel, which is good.

“We didn’t want to change things around too much against Shrewsbury but one or two have had more minutes under their belts.

“Against Wolves we’ll look to change things around and hopefully get another good performance. We saw the standard of West Bromwich Albion and I thought they were excellent young kids. I’m sure Wolves will be the same.”
