A COUPLE of errors by triallist goalkeeper James Wren consigned Hereford to another defeat by Conference op-position.

The 18-year-old who was previously with Walsall, allowed James Norwood’s shot to squirm into the net and then gifted a second to Reece Styche as the Bulls produced another disappointing display.

Dan Connor, who had an encouraging week at Lilles-hall, was not risked, with Adam Bartlett given a place on the bench.

Stefan Stam was also not fit so Ryan Green was named alongside Janos Kovacs in the heart of the defence.

Boss Jamie Pitman opted to pair new signing Yoann Arquin with Stuart Fleet-wood, who scored 31 goals in his one season at the New Lawn in 2007-8, in attack.

Hereford had the first meaningful attack — althou-gh it did take seven minutes to arrive — when Arquin slipped a neat pass out to Joe Colback whose fierce drive as parried away by Matt Bulman.

A foul on Arquin gave Fleetwood a shooting chance from a free-kick shortly afterwards but last season’s Bulls leading scorer lifted the ball a couple of yards over the bar.

Hereford’s first corner, with the Bulls making most of the attacking running, saw Rob Purdie’s drive confidently fielded by Bulman.

After 14 minutes, Purdie was hacked down by Jeffrey Imudia and referee Adam Matthews pointed to the spot.

Bulman guessed correctly and dived to his left to push away the midfielder’s penalty.

The home side hit back and took the lead on 20 minutes.

Tyler Weir was caught out by a long ball over the top and James Norwood advan-ced before shooting powerfully past Wren, who got a partial block on the ball but was unable to keep it out.

With Hereford trying to respond, Fleetwood did well to get around the back of the Green defence, but his cross was volleyed high and wide by James McQuilkin.

Just before the interval, a neat move involving Purdie and Kenny Lunt saw Fleet-wood slip a pass in to Arquin who was unable to get much power behind his shot and allowed Bulman a comfortable save.

Albert Jarret and Michael Townsend replaced Purdie and Kovacs at the interval and the former Lincoln win-ger curled a free-kick just over as the Bulls pressed forward early in the half.

But 11 minutes into the half, a disastrous blunder by Wren gifted Green a second goal. The triallist keeper, in trying to find a defender with a short pass, saw the ball intercepted by Reece Styche who sidefooted into the empty net.

Todd almost added a third moments later when Chris Todd headed a Chris Stokes free-kick just over.

The next goal was not long in coming, though, when James Rowe tricked his way through the Hereford de-fence and slid the ball past Wren.

The Bulls rarely looked like making much of an impact after this as the usual glut of substitutions took its toll.

But the result might have been even more emphatic but for a fine diving save by Wren to thwart Ishmael Kamara.
