AT roughly the same time Stuart Broad was performing the feat for England, Jez Robertson, was taking a hat-trick for the Old Vigornians seconds which very nearly saw them to victory.

Unlike Broad’s, in Robertson’s case there was no doubt over the veracity of any of the dismissals. All three were caught by keeper Jake Wells — the last, a brilliant effort down the leg-side.

The OVs bowled and fielded with great conviction but were unable to bowl Himbleton out. Dave Jenkins (45 not out) and George Clifton held firm for Himbleton to finish on 159-9, having been set 251 to win in 50 overs.

Stu Bailey made an accomplished 38 at the top of the order, before being brilliantly caught by Tim Race at second slip off Robertson (4-30).

Bailey was also the pick of the Himbleton attack with 3-43, while OV skipper Tony Meek (74) shared a 134-run opening stand with 17-year-old Ben Allsopp (56).
