WORCESTERSHIRE director of cricket Steve Rhodes says that young wicketkeeper Ben Cox is showing signs of improvement in the second team.

The 19-year-old had a tough start to the campaign in the first team and Rhodes brought in Ben Scott on loan. The arrival of the former England Lion allowed the ex-Bromsgrove School student to be taken out of the limelight and learn his trade in Damian D’Oliveira’s side.

And while Rhodes says that he isn’t getting to work with the teenager who penned a four-year at the end of the 2009 season, he says that Cox is on the road to recovery.

“I don’t know whether Scotty being here has necessarily helped massively in enhancing Coxy’s career in any way, but it has allowed him to go back to play second team cricket and do quite well.

“He has been keeping a lot better recently, he got a very good 80 last week, he is one for the future.

“I don’t have as much contact with Coxy as I would like, because our training paths but I have seen him in the seconds at the Grammar School and I speak to Damian regularly.

“He is definitely on the road to recovery and he is putting in some good performances now.”
