PERSHORE Phoenix enjoyed success on the River Severn at Worcester’s national league meeting.

The town team finished top of the standard league for the 200-metre competition and missed out in the 500m class major plate final by just 0.2 seconds, taking the runners-up silver trophy.

In the sixth national league regatta of the season, Clive Kenwrick was handed the accolade by Sue Menzies, vice-chairman of the British Dragon Boat Racing Association.

A field of 21 teams took part and there were numerous close finishes.

Phoenix are second in the standard national league for both 200m and 500m classes but beat several Premier League teams at the latest meeting.

Phoenix will be offering fun for everyone at the plum festival on August Bank Holiday Monday on the River Avon in Pershore.

There will be free rides in a dragon boat as well as paddling sessions behind Pershore Town Football Club and the Riverside Centre.
