OUT-of-sorts Evesham United slumped to a disappointing 1-0 home defeat against an Oxford City now unbeaten in three games in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
A poor spectacle was decided on 60 minutes. Felipe Barcelos’ free-kick was met by Andy Mallard who bundled the ball in at the near post past debutant goalkeeper Ryan Robinson.
The scrappy goal typified a game where the ball spent most of the time in the air and lacked any flowing football.
Evesham’s only clear-cut chance of the match arrived in the first-half when skipper Wayne Daniel’s header was cleared off the line by Marvin Martin. That was it as far as the Robins were concerned.
Giant keeper Jason Mooney was never tasted in the Oxford City goal, who themselves failed to register a shot at former Bath City stopper Robinson.
United manager Paul West brought on Marcus Palmer in an attempt to salvage something from the game but the striker was unable to add to United’s poor tally of just two goals in five games.
