County pursue promotion clincher

WORCESTERSHIRE go into their last home game of the season on Saturday (12.45pm) looking for a draw or win to secure their place in division One of the Pro40 League.

The County entertain Surrey Brown Caps and, as long as they avoid defeat, their opponents cannot claim second spot in their final match of the season at Taunton on Sunday.

Worcestershire secured their sixth consecutive victory in the competition against Hampshire on Wednesday night and now have one foot in the first division.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Saturday's game is such an important fixture for Worcestershire and it's fantastic to be able to look forward to another really exciting end to the season.

"We've seen some fine displays of cricket here throughout the summer and, as we draw towards autumn, the final NatWest Pro40 game at New Road provides us with a great opportunity to play some great cricket in front of our home crowd and hopefully seal promotion in doing so."

Worcestershire are currently level with Gloucestershire in first position and still in with a chance of claiming the second division title.

But, although they have a better run-rate than the Gladiators, Gloucestershire won their Pro40 meeting at New Road earlier in the season.

That means, whatever happens on Saturday, Gloucestershire can wrap up the title if they win at Canterbury on Sunday.

Car parking at New Road is only available to those with passes and no parking will be sold on the day.

Those without passes are asked to use public car parks.
