ORGANISERS of a prestigious awards programme are calling for people to nominate the two counties’ top sports people.

For the first time in their 10-year history, the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire have opened the nomination process to residents. Stephen Brewster, director of the sports partnership, said: “In previous years we have enlisted the help of the district councils to nominate those who have shown excellence in sport.

“We compiled a shortlist and held our annual event to announce the winners. This year, in light of the 2012 Olympics and encouraging greater participation and interest in sport, we are also calling on people in Herefordshire and Worcestershire to nominate those budding sportsmen and women they think deserve to be honoured.”

This year’s awards evening will be on November 16 at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium.

A new award of sports personality of the year is for those competing at professional or elite level. Nominations can be made up to September 26 at 5pm.

This year’s speaker will be former Olympian David Moorcroft.
