A TECHNICIAN had to be rescued from the TV gantry after becoming ill shortly before kick-off at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium.

The LV cup match between Worcester Warriors and London Wasps was delayed for 45 minutes, until 3.45pm, after the man – a member of Warriors backroom staff – became ill on Saturday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to rescue the man from the rooftop gantry.

He was eventually strapped to a stretcher and carefully lowered into the West Stand below before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance.

A Worcester Warriors club statement said: “At all times the member of staff’s safety and well-being was our priority.

“Worcester Warriors would like to thank the fire service, ambulance service, St John Ambulance, the medical team at Sixways and both teams and supporters for their patience and appreciation of the situation.”

Warriors went on to win the match.
