WORCESTER City are hoping their three-match winning league run will tempt fans to St George’s Lane on Saturday.

The Blue Square Bet North match against Harrogate Town will be the first time City have played on home soil since beating Bishop’s Stortford 2-1 on September 24.

With gate receipts being the club’s chief source of income, having almost a month between matches does not help the bank balance.

That was dealt a further blow when the team missed out on £4,500 in prize money by losing at Godalming Town in the FA Cup, also denying them a game last weekend.

However, in between they produced a fine performance in recording a 2-1 victory at Blyth Spartans to make it three league wins in a row and put them firmly in the play-off mix.

With that in mind, City officials are urging fans to get behind the team as they bid to make it four wins on the spin against Harrogate, while swelling the coffers at the same time.

Director Rich Widdowson said: “We are playing well and have won the last three league games. If you take the cup defeat out of it, we are doing well.

“With the way we are playing you would hope people would come along.

“Fortunately, we have got Evesham playing their home games at the Lane so we have got money coming in but we still need a good crowd to turn up.

“We are not in debt any more and have got money in the bank but we don’t want to touch that if we can help it.

“You can’t do any more than play entertaining football.”

Supporters will also be able to put questions to the board and manager Carl Heeley at a forum in the Harry Knowles Lounge after Saturday’s fixture.
