ASSISTANT manager Matt Gardiner insists revenge will not be on the minds of Worcester City when they take on Altrincham at St George’s Lane tomorrow (3pm).

City were thrashed 4-1 at Moss Lane in September and will be keen to set the record straight against the Robins.

They also look for their first win in four Blue Square Bet North matches after losing by the same scoreline at Droylsden on Tuesday night.

But Gardiner is not dwelling on the reverse defeat two months ago and instead called on Carl Heeley’s team to build on the positives gleaned from the second-half at Droylsden when sub Danny Edwards scored.

He also challenged the players to fill the void left by 10-goal striker Mike Symons who is out with a hamstring injury.

Gardiner said: “Our game is geared around Mike, because he’s been brilliant for us, and it took that first 45 minutes on Tuesday to adjust to the new way of playing. But we will work on that for tomorrow.

“The players don’t like losing but, on the positive side, we drew the second-half 1-1 so their spirits are up.

“If we do the right things we will be OK because we have got a good group of players.

“We can’t go into the game looking for revenge.

“We must concentrate on our home form and Altrincham will have to deal with it.

“We know we are strong at home and that will give us confidence.

“Everyone is looking forward to it and it’s an opportunity for the players who came on to make their mark.”

City have won three of their last four home games and were only denied the clean sweep by a stoppage-time penalty in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Guiseley.

They will be further buoyed by Altrincham’s away record which has seen them win only one of their seven games on the road — a 6-1 mauling of Welsh side Colwyn Bay in September.

Versatile midfielder Rob Elvins and defender Jacob Rowe could be brought into the starting line-up after coming on as second-half subs at Droylsden but Matt Birley is still struggling with a heel problem and looks set to miss out.

Striker Michael Taylor could come back into the squad after scoring eight goals in five games on loan at Stourport Swifts, including a hat-trick in their 9-0 mid-week beating of Bromyard Town in the Worcester Infirmary Cup.
