KIDDERMINSTER Harriers want to start 2012 on a high and ensure their play-off challenge continues its momentum.

The Aggborough outfit have been in a rich vein of form in the past two months and are unbeaten in seven Blue Square Bet Premier matches, winning five of them.

Boxing Day’s 1-0 triumph over Forest Green Rovers lifted Steve Burr’s side to within goal difference of the play-off places and they visit the New Lawn on New Year’s Day (3pm) for the return clash looking to force their way into the top five.

Manager Burr said: “We are very pleased.

“We have managed to close the gap this month and hopefully we can push on now into the new year.

“We have got the winning habit and confidence is very high, a lot of the players are playing very well and the performances have been really good.

“The aim is to get as high as we can and at the moment things are going well.

“We are delighted but we want to kick on now. Having played them on Boxing Day, I would like to think it gives a bit of a pyschological edge but that remains to be seen.”

Jack Byrne’s second-half strike secured the points at Aggborough on Monday, taking the midfielder’s tally to four goals in five games.

However, he sustained a knock to his knee against Dave Hockaday’s men and may be forced sit out the trip to Gloucestershire.

Burr added: “That would be a bit of a disappointment because he’s in a good run of form. He’s got in the goals which has been pleasing.”

James Vincent is in the frame to step in should Byrne miss the match after making the bench on Boxing Day following a knee injury.

Forest Green have shrugged off their tag of perennial strugglers this season, but are on a run of three straight defeats and four games without a goal.

They will be strengthened tomorrow by the return of defenders Jamie Turley and Eddie Oshodi from one-match bans.
