RICHARD Hill insists he will continue to pick his out-of-contract stars, even if they do decide to leave Warriors at the end of the season.

The head coach has already revealed he is not optimistic wingers Marcel Garvey and Miles Benjamin – who could talk to other clubs from January 1 as their deals expire this summer – will be at Sixways next term.

There are other first XV regulars with contracts set to run out at the end of this term, such as Matt Mullan, Alex Grove and Chris Pennell, but Hill will not let this affect his selection decisions.

He said: “I will always pick the team I think is best. Marcel has been absolutely brilliant and you couldn’t leave him out – he is one of the first three-quarters you put on the teamsheet.

“Even if players say they are going to go, there are some good characters here who will still put their heart and soul into the club.

“I wouldn’t expect any less than that from them as good professionals, so I’ll pick the team I need to to win matches.”

Hill added: “Some of these sides have a big pull and I know a lot of the players who have been at Worcester have been promised a lot of signings and that the club would move up the division.

“A lot of them have been hearing that for six or seven years, but we’re convinced we will do it this time.

“It’s a completely different set-up here now and there is a huge will to make sure we get the structure right to move up and get our recruitment right for next season. We need to break out of the bottom-four club mould we have at the moment and have to convince some players of that. I think a number of them are still waiting to see where the club goes over the next few weeks and if we start to move up the table.

“We will do everything we possibly can to do that and then hold onto some of these players.

“We all have to work hard to move up the table so people like Miles and one or two others who have been at this club for a long time now – and you can understand why they may want a change – can see a real future here.

“Sometimes, when clubs like Leicester and Northampton come in for your players, it is difficult to keep them away from that.

“All will become clear in the next four weeks when I think both Miles and Marcel will have made a decision.

“I’ve not done anything about looking for replacements as the contracts are still on the table – if they sign, it will be absolutely brilliant, but if they don’t I shall be out looking for new players.”

Meanwhile, Warriors prop George Porter will join centre Sione Tu’ipulotu next week in returning to Championship side Plymouth Albion on loan.

Former Worcester centre Gary Trueman, 31, has retired while at London Scottish due to his work commitments.
