GREG Mills believes Worcester City are the perfect club to help him kickstart his career.

Having established himself at Telford United last season, the speedy winger saw his progress stall in recent months, leading him to seek a new club.

With the St George’s Lane outfit keen to strengthen their attacking options for a play-off push, manager Carl Heeley secured the 21-year-old’s services until the end of the season.

Although it is a step down the non-league ladder, Mills is happy to be playing again after making his debut in the Workington stalemate last Saturday and producing a man-of-the-match effort in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Histon.

“I hadn’t played for two and-a-half months before the Workington game and I needed to get out and play games,” he said.

“I needed to go for my own personal development.

“I had a couple of offers from teams in the Blue Square Bet Premier and in City’s division but they didn’t materialise.

“But, after speaking to Carl and hearing how he wants to move the club on and how I can help, I felt this was the right move and would get my career back on track.

“I feel good. All the boys have accepted me and treated me like one of them and it’s going well.”

Mills, who can play on either flank, has plenty of pace and that asset led to him being tripped for Tom Thorley’s equalising penalty against Histon.

The winger added: “Carl asked me to bring pace, take players on and excite the fans. My first thought with the ball is to take people on and get into the box and score goals.

“It’s been a good start and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.”

Heeley said of his new recruit: “He goes at players and looks to beat his man all the time.

“Greg’s got good pace and he was a major threat on Monday.”
