WORCESTERSHIRE indoor cricket champions Worcester Nomads swept aside the challenge of Banbury from Oxfordshire to make progress in the national competition at Royal Grammar School, Worcester.
Batting first, they scored 122 all out with three balls wasted as Darren Lakin scored 28, Liam O’Driscoll 24 and Alex Milton 20. Andy Leach and Steve Bowman fired 14 and 15 respectively.
For Banbury, Owen Murray was the only wicket-taker removing Bowman lbw as he took 1-19 in his 2.3-over spell. The other Nomads wickets were all run-outs.
When Banbury batted, James Phillips, Steve Beck and Steve Launder eased to 67-2 in the seventh over and they looked well poised.
However, Milton completed a stunning stumping from Ben Schiffmann’s left-arm seam bowling to send back Launder and shortly after Ed Phillips was run out and Owen Murray bowled by Lakin to leave them with a mountain to climb.
After another run out, Nomads captain Schiffmann completed the fine win by catching a deflected shot from Lakin’s bowling.
Nomads go to Edgbaston to take on Godmanchester on Sunday at 2.15pm and, if successful in that match, will be in the regional final.
