WITH just one point covering the top six teams in the Worcester and District Football League Sunday Division Five, Worcester City Wanderers moved into second place with a crushing 7-2 victory over St George’s Reserves.
Bradley Smith led the way for the winners with a hat-trick and there were also doubles from James Todd and Dean Ballard.
Worcester Lynx are in a much stronger position, holding a 16-point lead at the top of Division Four.
Ian Hendry and Jon Vinnell both bagged two goals each as they hammered Northside 6-0.
In the same division, Malvern Rangers won their local derby at Malvern Victoria 4-3, Ollie Endacott scoring twice for Rangers and Roy Burston doing likewise for Victoria.
Division Three saw Ashley Millard netting four times for Brewers who thumped Droitwich RBL 6-3, while Toby Attwood cracked a hat-trick as Heenans Reserves won 6-2 at Upton Star.
Nunnery Wood drew 3-3 against Hallow with Gavin Fowler bagging two for Nunnery.
WCT Sports and Malvern Radar would appear to have the promotion places sewn up in Division Two.
WCT made it 11 wins out of 11 with the prolific Jamie Insall scoring four times as they thrashed St George’s 8-1. Louis Loader notched a double for Radar who won 5-1 at Anchor Falcons.
Meanwhile, the Division One title race is much closer.
Leaders KGV Worcester drew 2-2 with second-placed Martley Spurs and VBL Sports took the opportunity to leapfrog Martley, beating St John’s 3-1 with goals from Devon Smith, Andy Larner and David Eades.
In the Saturday League Division One, both Powick and VBL Sports took revenge for their Baylis Cup semi-final defeats last weekend by beating the same opposition.
A single strike from Stuart Harvey gave Powick victory at the University of Worcester and VBL overpowered Worcester Raiders 7-1, Smith again on target with a hat-trick and Ollie Dyde scoring twice.
The Division Two title looks like going to either The Railway Train or Worcester Rangers. The locomotive men won 3-0 at Worcester Anchors while a brace from Richard Smith gave Rangers a 2-0 victory at Northway.
In the Martley Cup, Hallow won 3-2 at West Malvern TC, Kieron Fallon notching both Malvern goals.
Heenans are through to the final of the Nursing Sunday Junior Cup where they will play either Powick or Red Horse.
In their semi-final they beat Upton Snodsbury 4-0 with goals from Nathan Haywood, Brad Birch, Scott Morris and also 17-year-old Richard Smith.
