ALEX Grove has been rewarded for his impressive Worcester Warriors form this term with a recall to the full Scotland training squad ahead of Saturday’s Six Nations wooden-spoon decider with Italy in Rome.

It seems likely the 24-year-old Sixways centre, who has been capped three times by his country, will go to the Italian capital as a travelling replacement and the recognition is well deserved based on his performances in a Worcester shirt this season. The Scotland team is set to be announced later today.

Warriors head coach Richard Hill said: “It’s very good for Alex.

“Andy Robinson has been tracking his progress and has been impressed — Grovesy deserves his spot.”

Elsewhere, it has been revealed that fly-half Joe Carlisle will miss up to six weeks after breaking his thumb in the Cavaliers game against The Army.

Hill added: “Joe has cracked his thumb and is in plaster, so that will put him out for five to six weeks.

“It is a blow for him, but he should only miss our next two league games against Newcastle and Leicester and then be back for the home match with Exeter on April 14.

“It just shows the importance of having three quality 10s in the squad — Andy Goode is right on form at the moment and Danny Gray has been playing very well in whichever competition he has appeared in.”
