WORCESTER Cavaliers ran riot with a superb home display as they overwhelmed Northampton Wanderers in a nine-try 53-13 victory at Sixways.

Cavaliers took control in the opening period as Craig Gillies, Jonny Arr, Neil Best, Ravai Fatiaki and Mike Penn all crossed the whitewash, while Jon Clarke, Worcester-bound next campaign, responded for Northampton as the home side built up a commanding 29-8 lead.

Tom Arscott scored a sublime solo effort early in the second-half, as he went almost the entire length of the field, while Ben Howard also grabbed a brace as Vasily Attemyev crossed for no more than a consolation score.

Centre Charlie Hayter brought up the magic 50 in the closing seconds as Cavaliers finished the season on home soil in style in front of a big crowd.

Northampton started the game on the front foot with full-back Attemyev breaking from deep to win a penalty, which Greig Tonks slotted for a 3-0 lead.

Worcester responded with Danny Gray nudging a penalty into the corner. The home pack then drove the line-out before Gillies went over for the opening try.

Another penalty that was driven to the corner and the home pack again shunted Northampton back to allow Arr to dart over. Gray added the extras for a 14-3 lead.

The forwards then made several darts for the line before Ireland international Best got his hands on the ball and powered over from close range.

The relentless pressure continued as quick ball found Fatiaki who crunched into three men andhad the power to get over for the fourth score.

The visitors hit back when Clarke showed good power to force his way over in the corner to reduce the deficit, but Worcester replied immediately through a Penn try.

Early in the second-half, the try of the night came from nowhere as Arscott picked up the ball four metres from his own line after a grubber kick through. The wing rolled out of two tackles and then sprinted away for a brilliant solo effort.

Replacement Ben Howard scored scored tries either side of Attemyev’s consolation score, before the gloss was put on the performance when hayter slid over.
