WORCESTER City boss Carl Heeley felt play-off rivals Nuneaton Town’s experience of high-stakes matches made the difference in their clash at Liberty Way.

First-half goals from Simon Forsdick, Danny Glover and Andy Brown consigned City to a 3-0 defeat as their quest for a Blue Square Bet North top-five place suffered a setback.

Although it was only their second league loss in 13 matches, City were made to pay for defensive errors which left them chasing the game after Forsdick’s third-minute opener for the higher-ranked hosts.

Heeley said: “Everything we spoke about in the changing room went out of the window after less than five minutes.

“There wasn’t much between the teams but in fairness to Nuneaton they probably had a little bit more know-how in these situations than some of our boys.

“I thought that showed because they didn’t make the basic errors we made and that was the difference in the game.

“I was disappointed with the goals we conceded. We made two pretty basic errors for the first two when the centre-halves let the ball bounce and when you’re playing against strikers of the quality of Andy Brown and Danny Glover they’re going to punish you.

I also thought we could have done better to stop the cross for the third.”

He added: “It was a funny game because despite being 1-0 down, I thought for the first 20 minutes we dictated the play and certainly had more of the ball.

“But to concede after three minutes was a major setback so I was more disappointed in the goals we conceded rather than the manner of the performance.

“It could have been one of those games where we rolled over and got a bit of a thumping but to our players’ credit, they kept going and created opportunities.

“Fair play to Nuneaton, they were better on the day and deserved their win.”
