WORCESTER City still have every chance of making the Blue Square Bet North play-offs, insists manager Carl Heeley.

The St George’s Lane club’s hopes were dented by the 3-0 Easter Monday defeat at promotion rivals Nuneaton Town, which left City four points behind fifth-placed Gainsborough Trinity with just three games to go.

But Heeley is staying positive and is delighted his unfancied side remain in the mix at this stage of the season.

He said: “Nothing was ever going to be decided on Mon-day. We’re disappointed but we’re not at panic stations. It’s great for us, we’ve got three games to go now and we’ve still got a chance.

“We’re disappointed, we don’t want to lose games, but the bigger picture is this group of lads have done magnificently well to get ourselves anywhere near the play-offs.”

Heeley is also hopeful striker Michael Taylor will return for Saturday’s crucial home match against Hinckley United.

An ankle injury has kept Taylor out of the last three games and his pace has been sorely missed.

The City boss said: “Of course we miss Michael. He doesn’t give defenders a minute, he’s got incredible pace and when you take that out of our side it’s noticeable.

“Hopefully he will be OK for the weekend.”
