BIRTHDAY boy Matt Kvesic reckons a match-winning try against Exeter Chiefs would be the perfect way to celebrate reaching the grand old age of 20.

Somewhat unfeasibly, given how long he has been putting in barnstorming performances for Warriors, the highly-rated back-rower was only born in 1992. Makes you feel very old, doesn’t it?

Regardless, Kvesic is mat-ure beyond his years and will start in the number seven jersey against the Chiefs, due to Jake Abbott’s on-going ankle injury, in tomorrow’s Aviva Premiership fixture at Sixways (3pm).

The England Under 20s ace is hoping to put one over on his old school friends from back home in Devon, many of whom are Exeter fans.

Kvesic said: “Hopefully I will get the birthday bumps after the game and not before. I want to be involved and a cheeky try would be a nice present, topped off with a win.

“My dad is unfortunately away in Afghanistan, but my mum will come down to watch.

“I went to school in Devon, near Exeter, so I have a lot of friends who are keen Chiefs. They are a good bunch and very vocal, so the ideal day will be a Worcester win and a nice celebration afterwards.”

Kvesic was carried off on a stretcher during Warriors’ 16-9 defeat at Sandy Park earlier this season, but thankfully the injury turned out not to be as serious as first feared.

He explained: “My last game against Exeter was a bit of a disappointing day. The ankle injury wasn’t as bad as first feared, but it was a shame as I had a lot of friends come down and support me.

“Exeter have done exceptionally well with the squad they have. They have not made a huge amount of changes and have performed very well.

“They play a very simple but effective game-plan that they all buy into and you can only admire what they have achieved so far this season.

“Hopefully, they won’t cause us too many problems and we can go out and express ourselves. Being at home – and we haven’t lost a game here in 2012 – we want to be firing and getting a win. If we play to our strengths, I think we will play well.”

He added: “The defeat at (Leicester) Tigers was hard to take. I was pleased with how I played, but it is disappointing to go to a place like that and face such a tough day at the office.

“We have had a couple of weeks now to turn that around and put in some good sessions and get things right for Exeter. As soon as the final whistle went at Welford Road, the thought was on the next page and playing Exeter.”
