HEREFORD United face one of the most important games in their recent history tonight at Barnet with Football League survival on the line (7.45).

With just four games left, the bottom-of-the-table Bulls know anything but victory would leave their status among the 92 professional clubs hanging by a thread.

They are only three points behind the third-from-bottom Bees but cannot afford to let that gap widen.

Manager Richard O’Kelly, whose side have taken just one point from their last six matches, said: “The importance of the game is not lost on anybody. It’s the biggest game some of the players will have featured in.

“Mathematically, it’s still possible to stay up but the game is a must-win. That doesn’t mean to say if we don’t win we would go down.

“I am sure we will have all the neutrals behind us. They would like to see us win for an exciting end to the season.

“I have been involved with teams in play-offs and cup finals and you don’t do anything differently, you still prepare in the correct manner.

“This week we have looked at Barnet and made sure everybody understands their roles.”

Hereford lost 2-1 at Accrington Stanley on Monday and O’Kelly felt the game summed up his side’s fortunes.

He added: “After I came in, we drew one and won one but we haven’t won any since and lost all five by the odd goal.

“Apart from against Crewe, we have had fair shouts for penalties turned down or decisions go against us. Performances have not been brilliant but we could have got results in all of them.”

Bulls full-back Ryan Green may not be fit for the Underhill clash as he continues to struggle with his knee injury.
