FORMER Alans Tackle captain Tony Witcher marked a return to Brockamin with first prize in the penultimate round of the pairs league.

He recorded a massive 125lbs 14oz winning bag of carp on the Worcestershire fisheries’ bottom lake.

On peg 12 opposite the point of the smaller island, Witcher’s opening plan of ledgering sweetcorn tight across led to the downfall of around a dozen carp to double figures.

A change to a method feeder late on saw him top up with another four good fish for a comfortable victory.

Runner-up Steve Taylor also broke the ton when he took 105-4 from peg 16.

Using his favourite method-feeder approach, Taylor offered 10mm boilie on the hook to net 12 good fish.

The final big weight fell to previous round winner Mick Walker with 101-0 from peg 18 to beat Richard Oliver, whose 88-8 from peg 22 included a few fish taken on paste.

With one round left, Blake Hobbs and Chris Senter lead with 17 points, followed by Taylor and Chris Summers (18) and Walker and Martin Spears (20). The final round at Brockamin is on Sunday, May 27.

The first round of the Mid Worcester Cup began on Barbourne pool with Ombersley top with 11 points followed by Barbourne who, along with 100AC, scored 13 and Spa AC on 15.

The best individual was Ashley Walker (Spa) with 31-8 of carp from peg one and Barbourne star Terry Box came second with 21-12. Third was Martin Dugmore’s weight of 16-12.

Paul Coley blitzed the Swan AC event on the canal at Tibberton when he weighed in a fine 10-1 of bream and chub caught on bread and caster baits.

Second was Steve Middleton, who netted one bream and a few gudgeon going 2-13-4, and third with just 0-13 of eels was Ivor Ballard.

Portobello carp expert Gary Brixton senior took the honours at Leigh Sinton’s Arbo pool.

Netting his favourite species along with a few skimmers, Brixton took a healthy winning weight of 41-5.

Stuart Tibbetts was second with a pole and pellet-caught net going 33-5 ahead of Mark Burbeck (27-6) and Chris Aldridge (24-8).
