ROYAL Grammar School Worcester’s First XI went unbeaten through the National T20 cricket tournament’s preliminary round.
The pupils beat city rivals King’s, Bromsgrove and Solihull schools in progressing.
The matches were switched to the RGS pitches due to flooding, and the hosts, led by captain Will French, made a solid start, posting 138-7 before restricting Solihull to 84-8.
Bromsgrove beat King’s by eight wickets before taking on RGS in a key match and a score of 128-9 from the Worcester school was competitive.
Tremendous bowling and work in the field saw the visitors knocked over for just 64.
With King’s suffering a seven-wicket defeat to Solihull, RGS needed to beat their city rivals to remain at the head of the pool.
Batting first, RGS struck 148-6 before tight bowling and shrewd captaincy from French limited King’s to 96-6, giving RGS a 52-run win and a place in the next round.
