Tanvir set to miss Glamorgan clash
WORCESTERSHIRE are resigned to the fact overseas signing Sohail Tanvir will not be available for tomorrow’s Friends Life t20 clash with Glamorgan at New Road (5.30pm).
County chiefs had hoped Tanvir’s visa application to travel to England would have been processed in time for the Pakistan international to feature against the Welsh Dragons, which will mark the half-way stage of Worcestershire’s group matches.
However, with Tanvir still tied up in red tape in Islamabad, New Road chief executive David Leatherdale admits the County will be without their second overseas star for a fifth t20 match.
Leatherdale said: “It is massively frustrating, but we can’t control what people 7,000 miles away are doing. We have spoken to the embassy many times, as has Sohail, but we remain in their hands.
“Sohail’s application has been looked at by the person in charge of visas and we hope it will be sorted today - Sohail is ready to jump on a plane as soon as he can.
“The embassy are looking at his visa, but can’t guarantee the date when it will be finished. Therefore, it is unlikely he will be available for tomorrow’s Friends Life t20 game with Glamorgan at New Road.”
