TRIALLIST Lloyd Macklin grabbed a late equaliser for Hereford United in their opening pre-season friendly 1-1 draw at Edgar Street after Ed Upson had fired visiting Yeovil in front.
The new season got under way in typically confused fashion with no team sheets issued for either press or fans.
Consequently, other than the contracted players, who had their names on their back, the make-up of the team was something of a mystery, although former Cheltenham player Andy Gallinagh was recognised at right-back.
Former Darlington striker Ryan Bowman, former Cheltenham winger Marley Watkins and ex-Northampton left-back Chris Carruthers were eventually discovered to be the other triallists.
Gavin Williams, Lewis Young and Byron Webster, three former Bulls, lined up for the visitors.
Hereford made a promising start with Sam Clucas having an early shot blocked. At the other end, Williams forced Dan Hanford into a save with a low drive.
Yeovil wasted a good chance when Young got free on the right and crossed into the six-yard box where James Hayter side-footed the 19th minute opportunity over the bar.
A right-footed chip from 30 yards by Hayter just cleared the bar as Yeovil continued to create such few chances as there were. But the best shot came from Harry Pell, a dipping 35-yard free-kick which was tipped over by keeper Marek Stech five minutes before the break.
Yeovil opened the scoring a minute later, however, when a 25-yarder from Upson found the bottom corner of the net.
Half-time brought the usual wholesale changes in personnel with, among others, Macklin and Eddie Odhiambo taking to the field.
Macklin produced a couple of half chances while Odhiambo showed some pace from right-back.
The closest Hereford came to levelling the scores was in the 71st minute when Gareth Stewart dived to push the ball behind when Richard Hinds cleared.
Yeovil were less dominant than in the first period but went close on 80 minutes when Casey Thomas flashed a drive from 20 yards.
The Bulls grabbed an equaliser three minutes from time. Macklin robbed keeper Stewart who was trying to gather a back-pass outside his area and shot home.
