GOALKEEPER Glyn Thompson is poised to be involved for Worcester City when they host Premiership side West Bromwich Albion tonight (7.45).
The former Newport County custodian is being lined up as a possible replacement for James Dormand after he left City to concentrate on his coaching business.
Thompson started the second-half of Saturday’s 3-0 warm-up win at Midland Alliance side Stratford Town — Matt Sargeant played the first period — and has held further talks with the St George’s Lane club.
Asked if the 31-year-old would play in the friendly against the Baggies, manager Carl Heeley said: “Very possibly, yes. We’ve had a chat with Glyn, we’ve got an idea of what sort of deal he’s looking for and I’ve promised to have a look at it.”
Peterborough United’s Alfrick-born midfielder Matt Breeze, another player City are keen to recruit, should also play against the Baggies as he has permission from the Posh.
With Albion, who lost 3-2 to Kidderminster Harriers in a behind-closed-doors match on Saturday, having set off today for a two-game tour of Sweden and Denmark, their side is likely to be made up of youngsters.
However, Worcester manager Carl Heeley is still expecting a stern test of his players’ credentials.
City continue to look at trialists and Heeley has been particularly pleased with the progress of Shabir Khan.
The left-back featured in his first Worcester game for nearly two years against Stratford following cruciate ligament damage.
